The most compact carbon fiber tripod Gitzo has on the market, the Traveler, when completely folded, stands at a diminutive 36 cm. At 146 cm when fully extended, the Traveler rises as tall as most standard Gitzo Tripods. But thanks to groundbreaking 180 degree folding mechanism, the Traveler is a full 25% shorter and more compact when folded. All this makes the Traveler perfect for carrying in a photographer’s hand luggage.
An excellent choice for use with all digital cameras, 35mm and lightweight camcorders, the Traveler offers high maximum load for a very low weight. The travel tripod weighs only 1 kg and is the ideal solution for photographers on the move in situations where space is at a premium.
It only takes seconds to open and secure the tripod with the new Anti-Leg-Rotation (ALR) system. Just loosen all twist locks at the same time and pull down the leg before tightening the twist locks, making setup a mere 15 seconds. Gitzo added other improvements such as a new center column-locking collar found above the tripod. Adjusting this collar is quick and easy and it also improves stability.
Gitzo, as usual, left no detail overlooked. Even the stabilizing hooks that used to take up space and snag on clothing or equipment will no longer be problematic. A newly redesigned built-in, spring-loaded, retractable hook on the bottom of the center column provides a place to hang a stabilizing counterweight such as such as camera, sand or water bags.
Like all Gitzo carbon fiber tripods, the Traveler also offers unparalleled strength. The tripod was developed using a unique manufacturing process based on pull winding of long carbon fibers. The fibers are precisely wrapped and combined under high temperature and pressure with epoxy resin. This process ensures stiff, light tubes that are resistant to bending and perform with a high degree of stability and compression strength. The Traveler also provides greater capacity to absorb vibrations and withstand fatigue.
The Traveler also is built with Gitzo’s anti-rotation grooved center column. The center column locking collar makes it easier to adjust the column quickly.
The legs are assembled using Gitzo's "H.I.S.," a dual "screw thread and glue" jointing technology that provides greater durability and reliability than alternative methods.
