When Gitzo launched the Mountaineer tripods in 1994, they were the world’s first carbon fibre tripods. Ever since then they have set the standard for performance and quality. The main feature of the range is the new 6X carbon fibre tube, made of a unique structure of 6 crossed layers that maximises rigidity, vibration absorption and lightweight performance.The 6X tube has a high density structure made of top quality ultra-thin carbon fibres. Built-in Anti Leg Rotation (ALR) is now a feature of the whole carbon fibre range. Mountaineer tripods have been further improved with features and details that increase performance, versatility and quality.

With the new generation of center ball heads launched during 2008, Gitzo brought into the market a wholly new approach in terms of design, performance and technology. Starting from these new standards, Gitzo developed a “simplified” center ball head, specifically conceived for travelling. The new series 2 Traveler center ball head is available in two versions, with and without quick release adapter, and it combines lightweight and compactness with a lot of the innovative features of the top of the range heads. First of all the ball is the revolutionary Gitzo patent pending “Bubble Ball” PTFE treated, mounted on PTFE bushings. Apart from the dramatic weight reduction achieved, this beautiful sphere guarantees an exceptionally smooth operation. Also the locking system is the Gitzo unique and patent pending Spring Assisted Double Lock (SADL) that combines two locking systems in one, maximising both locking power and operation smoothness. Thanks to this revolutionary system the Traveler head guarantees a safe lock up to 6 kg (13,2 lbs) measured accordingly to Gitzo standard (15 kg-33 lbs if measured accordingly to competitors standard). The head body is made of cast magnesium and it is designed, like all Gitzo latest development products, with advanced 3D modelling software to achieve the maximum structural strength with the minimum weight. Both heads feature a leveling spirit level inserted in the ball stem, while the quick release version features three additional spirit levels in order to always guarantee perfectly levelled images. Besides this, the quick release includes a new lever operated quick release plate locking system and the traditional double safety system. The two Traveler heads come with a smart Gitzo display cleaner and convenient anti dust bag for storage and packing.
